Finnair

Flight Volume, Cancellations, and On-Time Performance
From 1st to 23rd August, Finnair has operated almost 3,000 flights. Moreover, Finnair has been able to slightly increase its flight volume during the month. On average Finnair’s daily flight volume hovers between 120 and 140. Except for two cancelations, Finnair operated an outstanding reliable schedule. Moreover, in terms of on-time performance, the Finnish carrier delivered exceptional results too. Except for two days, Finnair delivered an OTP above 90%.

Airline Performance Assessment
When comparing Finnair’s performance in August to its annual average, the carrier could improve its OTP massively. Currently, Finnair is 5pp above its annual OTP average. In terms of cancellation rate, Finnair continues to maintain at a minimum possible level.
For August, we currently forecast a flight volume of 4,000. Therefore, Finnair would report a flight volume increase of around 25% compared to July if this plays out.

KLM
KLM is the flag carrier of the Netherlands and part of the Air France/KLM airline group. The SkyTeam member operates out of its hub in Amsterdam.
Flight Volume, Cancellations, and On-Time Performance
From 1st to 23rd August, KLM has operated more than 13,000 flights. As a result, the Durch carrier has performed 550 daily flights on average. In total, the airline had to cancel 111 flights. After a smooth start in the month, KLM seems to have run into some problems since 14th August. As a result, KLM reported double-digit cancellations on the 14th, 16th, 20th, and 21st. In terms of on-time performance, KLM operated on a very solid 93.2% punctuality level.

Airline Performance Assessment
In August, KLM, so far, has operated above its annual on-time performance level. Moreover, the airline has significantly decreased its cancellation rate compared to the annual average.
For the entire month, we currently forecast a flight volume of 17,500 flights. Compared to July, this would result in a flight volume growth of >37%.

Ryanair
Ryanair is an Irish low-cost airline. The carrier is Europe’s biggest low-cost airline and one of the world’s biggest airlines at the same time. Ryanair operates out of dozens of bases across Europe.
Flight Volume, Cancellations, and On-Time Performance
From 1st to 23rd August, Ryanair has operated more than 52,000 flights — more than any other European airline. On top of that, the airline managed to slightly increase its flight volume intra-month. Moreover, Ryanair operated on a <0.1% cancellation level. Except for the 1st of August, the Irish low-cost carrier hasn’t canceled more than two daily flights. On the contrary, on most of the days, Ryanair didn’t cancel a single flight.

Airline Performance Assessment
With an on-time performance of 92.4%, Ryanair is on its way to further improve its annual OTP performance. In addition, when looking at cancellations, Ryanair has also been doing better than during the rest of the year’s (already exceptional) average.
For the entire month, we forecast a flight volume of 70,000 — that would result (again) in a massive growth compared to the previous month.
