The weekly airline performance analysis brings you the most-up-date statistics. Every week we analyze different airlines in terms of flight volume, punctuality, and cancellations in the current month. Today, we present some of Europe’s biggest flag-carriers: Air France, British Airways, and Iberia.

Air France
Air France is France’s flag carrier and the country’s biggest airline. The SkyTeam member operates out of its hub in Paris (CDG).
Flight Volume, Cancellations, and On-Time Performance
From 1st to 22nd August, Air France has operated more than 15,914 flights. So far, Air France operates a very stable flight schedule. AF’s daily flights hover in a corridor between 650 and 780. Air France faced some minor issues on several days in terms of cancellations, resulting in a cancellation rate of around 1%. However, overall the carrier operated at a solid cancellation rate. Punctuality-wise, Air France, so far, has achieved solid results in a corridor of around 90%.



Airline Performance Assessment
Compared to the annual average, Air France operates at a much higher level in its on-time performance. The same accounts for its cancellation rate. Compared to the annual average, Air France operates 6.1pp below in August.
For August, we currently forecast a flight volume of 22,000. Therefore, air France would report a flight volume reduction of around 10% compared to July if this plays out.

British Airways
British Airways is the flag carrier of the United Kingdom. The OneWorld member operates out of its hub in London Heathrow (LHR).
Flight Volume, Cancellations, and On-Time Performance
From 1st to 22nd August, British Airways has operated almost 7,700 flights. Moreover, and even more importantly, British Airways slightly increased its flight volume in August. In total, the airline had to cancel 40 flights and operated on a 94.8% punctuality level. Up to now, British Airways hasn’t closed a day below 90% punctuality. Moreover, the carrier completed several days with an on-time performance above 95%.



Airline Performance Assessment
In August, British Airways, so far, has operated above its annual on-time performance level. Moreover, the airline has significantly increased its OTP by 7.6pp compared to the annual average. Same accounts for BA’s cancellation rate. In August, British Airways has canceled only 0.5% of its flight – 1.7pp lower than its annual average.
For the entire month, we currently forecast a flight volume of 11,000 flights. Compared to July, this would result in a flight volume growth of >35%.



Iberia
Iberia is Spain’s flag carrier and one of the country’s biggest airlines. The airline is a member of the OneWorld alliance and operates out of its hub in Madrid.
Flight Volume, Cancellations, and On-Time Performance
From 1st to 22nd August, Iberia has operated more than 10,200 flights. On top of that, the airline saw a very stable volume during the entire period. Overall, the Spanish flag carrier had to cancel 34 flights. However, the majority of all cancellations happened from the 11th to the 14th of August. Therefore, from a punctuality point of view, Iberia operated on an exceptional level. As a result, Iberia has achieved an OTP of 96.8% so far. Moreover, Iberia managed to close many days with an OTP above 97%.



Airline Performance Assessment
With an on-time performance of 96.7%, Iberia is on its way to further improve its exceptional results. In addition, when looking at cancellations, Iberia has also been doing better than during the rest of the year’s average. For the entire month, we forecast a flight volume of 14,500. As a result, Iberia would deliver a flight volume growth of 7% compared to July.
