Daily Airline Analysis – 6th August – Ryanair, Alitlia, easyJet, and Virgin Atlantic
For today’s issue of the “Daily Airline Analysis,” we’ve selected four airlines that showed an exciting performance in August so far. Discover everything about Ryanair’s, Alitalia’s, eayJet’s, and Virgin Atlantic’s performance.

Ryanair – Daily Airline Analysis
From 1st to 5th August, Ryanair already operated more than 11,000 flights. Compared to the last months, which we will explain in detail below, it represents a considerable volume increase. However, Ryanair operated at a solid on-time performance level of 91.5% and an excellent cancellation rate of 0.1%.
Flight Volume
So far, Ryanair saw the strongest traffic on 1st August with almost 2,400 flights. In the course of the week, Ryanair’s flight volume slightly decreased to a low of 2,075 on the 5th of August. However, worth mentioning that Ryanair constantly performed more than 2,000 daily flights in August.

Punctuality & Cancellations
Ryanair reported a relatively high amount of cancellations on the 1st of August. On that day, the low-cost airline had to cancel six flights. However, the number of cancellations constantly decreased during the next few days. Moreover, on the 4th and 5th of August, Ryanair did not cancel any flights. As a result, Ryanair had a weak start in the month and performed below 90% in terms of punctuality. However, since the 3rd of August, Ryanair is back above the 90% threshold.

Ryanair – Assessment & Forecast
Here are the three most important results of our Ryanair airline analysis:
- On-time performance: So far, Ryanair has operated below its annual average in August. From January to July, Ryanair achieved an average on-time performance of 92.%, whereas the punctuality in August has been 91.% so far.
- Flight cancellations: Ryanair operates with a minimum level of flight cancellations. In August the cancellation rate has been 0.1% — 0.3 pp below Ryanair’s annual average.
- Flight Volume Forecast: Our current prognosis forecasts a monthly flight volume of 68,000 for August. Compared to the monthly average and last month’s performance, Ryanair would skyrocket its flight volume once again.




Alitalia – Daily Airline Analysis
From 1st to 5th August, Alitalia operated 1,455 flights. At the same time, the Italian flag-carrier achieved an on-time performance of 93.5%. However, even more important, Alitalia continues with a zero cancellation rate.
Flight Volume
So far, Alitalia’s flight volume has been quite stable. From 1st to 5th of August, Alitalia operated between 280 and 300 daily flights.

Punctuality & Cancellations
As already mentioned, Alitalia has been operating a very stable flight schedule in August so far. As a result, Alitalia didn’t cancel a single flight in August. From a punctuality point-of-view, the Italian carrier had a weak start in the month but continuously improved its punctuality. Overall, Alitalia has achieved a punctuality level above 93% so far.

Again, the last part of the airline analysis provides details on the performance and forecast:
- On-time performance: Alitalia achieved an outstanding on-time performance so far. Compared to its annual average, Alitalia has been able to further improve by 1 pp.
- Flight cancellations: Although Alitalia’s annual cancellation rate was very low, the carrier has been able to futher improve.
- Flight Volume Forecast: Our current prognosis forecasts a monthly flight volume of 9,000 for August. Compared to the monthly average and last month’s performance, Alitalia could further increase its volume.

easyJet – Daily Airline Analysis
From 1st to 5th August, easyJet operated a total of 5,538 flights. At the same time, the airline had to cancel seven flights while operating with an average on-time performance of 89.9%.
Flight Volume
easyJet had a strong start in August and operated 1,255 flights on the 1st of August. Afterward, the flight volume decreased to a low of 988 on the 4th of August. However, easyJet increased its volume back above 1,000 daily flights on the 5th of August.

Punctuality & Cancellations
Obviously, easyJet faced some problems on the 1st of August. As a consequence, the U.K.-based airline had to cancel seven flights on that day. However, from the 2nd to the 5th of August, easyJet maintained at a “zero-cancellation-rate.” From a punctuality view, easyJet operated at a corridor between 85% and 93%.

easyJet – Assessment & Forecast
Again, the last part of the airline analysis takes a closer look at relevant KPIs and forecasts:
- On-time performance: So far, easyJet is slightly below its annual on-time performance average. With 89.9% in August, easyJet is 1.6 pp down compared to the average.
- Flight cancellations: In terms of flight cancellations, easyJet performs very good and is 2 pp better compared to the annual average..
- Flight Volume Forecast: Our current prognosis forecasts a monthly flight volume of 34,000 for August. Compared to the monthly average and last month’s performance, easyJet is about to skyrocket the flight volume this month.




Virgin Atlantic – Daily Airline Analysis
From 1st to 5th August, Virgin Atlantic operated a total of 181 flights. At the same time, the airline had to cancel 22 flights while operating with an average on-time performance of 97.2%.
Flight Volume
Contrary to many other airlines, Virgin Atlantic started the month with a low amount of flights. On the 1st of August, Virgin Atlantic operated only 26 flights. However, during the next few days, the volume has grown to 53.

Punctuality & Cancellations
Up to now, Virgin Atlantic has faced some severe problems in terms of cancellations. On two consecutive days, the airline had to cancel eight flights. As a result, Virgin’s cancellation rate is above 10% so far. From a punctuality point of view, Virgin Atlantic is doing a good job and constantly operates above 90%. Moreover, on two days, Virgin was able to achieve a 100% punctuality level.

Virgin Atlantic – Assessment & Forecast
Finally, the airline analysis provides insights on the most relevant KPIs and provides a forecast:
- On-time performance: Comapred to annual average (79.4%), Virgin Atlantic has been doing a much better job in August so far.
- Flight cancellations: Contrary to punctuality, cancellation rate has been devastating so far. Even in comparison the relatively high annual average, Virgin Atlantic has performed way beyond.
- Flight Volume Forecast: Our current prognosis forecasts a monthly flight volume of 1,100 for August. Compared to the monthly average and last month’s performance, Virgin Atlantic is about to double the flight volume this month.
