Iberia — Flight Analysis
We kick off the analysis with details about Iberia’s flights from February to June 2021. Then, on top of the overall numbers, we also provide details about the airline’s share in terms of EMEA traffic and the carrier’s ranking compared to other European and global airlines. So let’s get into it!
Monthly Flight Overview
Due to COVID-19, Iberia started the year with a relatively low number of flights. However, since February, the carrier has constantly been increasing its monthly flights. Moreover, Iberia has been able to realize double-digit month-on-month growth. Finally, and based on a more than 22% growth rate, Iberia operated more than 10,000 flights in June.
Month | No. Flights | vs. prev. Month |
---|---|---|
February | 5,850 | |
March | 6,782 | 15.9% ![]() |
April | 7,666 | 13.0% ![]() |
May | 8,467 | 10.4% ![]() |
June | 10,393 | 22.7% ![]() |
Avg. ’21 | 7,831 |
The share of flights performed by Iberia in relation to total EMEA flights has been quite stable during the entire period. From February to April, Iberia maintained a share of 2.7%. Afterward, Iberia’s share slightly decreased to 2.6% and 2.3% during May and June, respectively. Nevertheless, this —most likely— is a result of other airlines restarting their operations and growing faster than Iberia.

Global & European Ranking By Number of Flights
When comparing Iberia’s flights with other airlines, the Spanish airline achieves solid results. On a global scale, Iberia ranks in the first quarter and has continuously improved its ranking. Compared to European airlines, Iberia ranks 10th on average. Finally, compared to other Spanish airlines, Iberia has won the title of the biggest Spanish airlines in four of five analyzed months. Only in April, Vueling performed more flights than Iberia.
