The world’s top 50 airlines by market cap lost $36 billion of value in one month. Here’s the detailed airline market cap ranking for June 2021.

What’s Market Cap and how we Measured?

Let’s have some quick explanations before we dive into the ranking’s details. First, the market capitalization (market cap) reflects the value of a publicly listed company. In most cases, the calculation is straightforward: The number of issued stocks multiplied with the current stock price. However, and worth mentioning: Since the calculation is based on the stock price, the market cap is highly dynamic. Accordingly, the shown list might change quickly — as stock prices do. Nevertheless, we will keep updating the list regularly.

Airlines Market Cap — Key Takeaways

Airlines Lost Almost $40 Billion.
Compared to last month’s ranking, the top 50 airlines lost $36.47 billion in market cap. That’s roughly 10% compared to their value last month. In May, the total value of the 50 airlines accounted for $363 billion, compared to $326 billion in June.

Hainan Airlines loses 83%
A month ago, Hainan Airlines, which was the most valuable airline, lost 83% of its market cap. Subsequently, the airline also lost 19 positions and is now the 20th valuable airline by market cap. However, Hainan’s stock price seems to be very volatile at the moment. Therefore, we are curious to see where Hainan ranks next month.

Ryanair gains momentum
Ryanair is one of the rare airlines that was able to increase its market cap. Moreover, Ryanair’s value grew by more than 13%. With $25 billion, Ryanair now is the 3rd most valuable airline by market cap. That’s trice the value of the Lufthansa Group and ten-time the value of Air France.
